On Wednesday, the National Counterterrorism Center added the Taliban in Pakistan, k.a. Tehrik-e-Taliban (TTP), to the State Department’s list of Foreign Terrorist Organizations (FTO), officially, although, obviously, the Taliban has not been held in very high regard for most of its existence. Daniel Benjamin, the U.S. Ambassador-at-large for Counterterroism announced it in a press conference that day.

It has been reported by the Washington Post, Christian Science Monitor, Reuters, among other outlets.

The Christian Science Monitor gave the most comprehensive report, but Reuters has responding quotes from Qari Hussein Meshud, TTP’s senior leader who replaced Baitullah Meshud, after he was killed in August 2009. And you’ll never guess what he had to say!

The Daily Caller also posted an article  discussing the State Department’s snub of the Afghanistani Taliban. On July 4th, the LA Times discussed Angels Pitcher Jered Weaver’s snub from the 2010 all-star roster.
